It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Tonganoxie Chieftains can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Saint Thomas Aquinas on Friday, falling 42-14. Tonganoxie's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Trevor McGraw threw for 85 yards and a touchdown. Isaiah Holthaus was his top target, picking up 37 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Colton Brusven rushed for 45 yards.
Leading Saint Thomas Aquinas to victory were Gianni Rizzi and Cole Richardson. Rizzi rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, while Richardson rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Richardson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Aiden Skinner was another key contributor, throwing for 34 yards and a touchdown.
Tonganoxie's loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Saint Thomas Aquinas, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Tonganoxie does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Saint Thomas Aquinas will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Andover Central at 1:00 p.m. on November 25th. Andover Central will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Saint Thomas Aquinas is ranked fourth).
