It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Mountain Ridge Miners had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against Catoctin as Mountain Ridge made off with a 37-17 victory. Mountain Ridge might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Will Patterson, who rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 184 yards and a touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Austin Frost, who rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown.
The win (which was Mountain Ridge's fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.2 points per game. As for Catoctin, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Mountain Ridge will face off against Perryville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Perryville's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five matches. Catoctin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
