Saucon Valley hasn't had much luck against Southern Lehigh recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Saucon Valley will host Southern Lehigh at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Saucon Valley will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Bangor, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Saucon Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Bangor on Saturday, sneaking past 10-8.
Matty Seyfried was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up seven earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. Seyfried was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Ryan Gall was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Rowan Best was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Saucon Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Southern Lehigh had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Rough Riders an 18-0 shutout. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Spartans this season.
Delaney Young looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Southern Lehigh got a massive performance out of Lila Padden, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those five RBI gave Padden a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Davies, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.
The win got Saucon Valley back to even at 1-1. As for Southern Lehigh, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.
