The Phoenix Spartans pushed their score all the way to 66 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a hard 84-66 fall against Belle Chasse. While losing is never fun, Phoenix can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Belle Chasse is ranked 137th).
Phoenix lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being JAYLON MARTIN, who scored 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points MARTIN has scored all season. DERVONTE ANCAR was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Kyle Reeves was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and six assists for Belle Chasse. Another player making a difference was Maddux Parfait, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Phoenix and nudges their season record down to 9-12. As for Belle Chasse, they pushed their record up to 17-9 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Phoenix will head out on the road to face off against Wright at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wright will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Phoenix surely won't give up without a fight. As for Belle Chasse, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Archbishop Shaw at 7:00 p.m. Belle Chasse has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
