After a string of three wins, the Overbrook Panthers's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Middletown. While losing is never fun, Overbrook can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 168th in Pennsylvania, while Middletown is ranked 11th in Delaware).
When it comes to explaining why Overbrook lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nasir Kelly. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with two steals. Kelly hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Tahmiere Manning, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Overbrook's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Middletown, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overbrook won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech at 3:15 p.m. on January 16th. One thing working in Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four contests. As for Middletown, they will head out on the road to take on Appoquinimink at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
