The Mascoutah Indians will take on the Red Bud Musketeers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Mascoutah is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Mascoutah came out on top against Jersey on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Indians walked away with a 9-5 victory over the Panthers. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.
Faith Moore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaila Moore, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Emelia Stein, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Red Bud, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Carlyle by a score of 6-1 on Thursday.
Julia Ohlau made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Julia Whelan and Lilly Minemann did most of the damage at the plate: Whelan went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Minemann went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Red Bud hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carlyle struck out 13 times.
Mascoutah pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Red Bud, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mascoutah hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Red Bud struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
