It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Marquez Gladiators ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged George Washington Prep out 71-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
It was another big night for Lamont White Jr, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. The match was his 14th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Nunez, who scored 17 points.
Marquez's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for George Washington Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marquez and Maywood CES will face off at 4:30 p.m. on January 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Maywood CES is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. George Washington Prep is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Crenshaw at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. Crenshaw has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 672 points over their last nine matchups.
