The Ponchatoula Green Wave will venture away from home to square off against the Northlake Christian Wolverines at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Ponchatoula and Doyle, and Doyle kept the tradition alive. The Green Wave lost 19-2 to the Tigers on Monday. The Green Wave's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Ponchatoula saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Faye Boihem, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Sierra Bess also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Northlake Christian never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Mt. Hermon as they made off with a 14-0 victory. Considering the Wolverines have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sara Davis and Abigail Willie made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Davis tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Willie tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Davis scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Willie went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddie Henderson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Raimondi, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Northlake Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Northlake Christian has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Ponchatoula, their loss dropped their record down to 17-11.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ponchatoula has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Northlake Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .432. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ponchatoula beat Northlake Christian 3-0 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Green Wave since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
