The Ovid-Elsie Marauders fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They slipped by Standish-Sterling 28-27 on Friday.
Ovid-Elsie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clayton Fruchey led the charge by picking up 188 receiving yards and a touchdown. Fruchey was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 61 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tryce Tokar, who threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns.
Standish-Sterling's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Sullivan, who rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns. Jacob Bartlett also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Even if they lost, Standish-Sterling's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Brecken Stokoszynski and his two sacks.
Ovid-Elsie now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Standish-Sterling, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Ovid-Elsie will be playing at home against Ida at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ida is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Standish-Sterling does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
