PORTERVILLE, Calif. -
Strathmore (Calif.) received a huge boost from its defense against
Granite Hills (Porterville, Calif.), as the unit scored 12 in defeating
Granite Hills (Porterville, Calif.), 41-14.
The Spartans were up 27-0 at the half after taking the lead on a
David Medina touchdown run in the first quarter.
Strathmore expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. SHS scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Medina.
The Spartans' most effective player was
Jorge Ibarra. The senior running back caught one touchdown. He has now scored two touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game Strathmore had allowed 26.6 points per game this year. SHS held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Grizzlies below the 18.4 points it had been averaging per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Spartans came away with a 43-35 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Strathmore, which was coming off a 45-0 defeat at the hands of Corcoran in its previous game. The loss comes after Granite Hills defeated Sierra Pacific 16-12 last week.
Granite Hills (1-8) goes up against Woodlake in a East Sequoia game matchup next week, while Strathmore (5-4) locks horns with Lindsay also in a East Sequoia game.
