Mesa Ridge and Palmer are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but not for long. The Grizzlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Terrors at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Mesa Ridge will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Coronado, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Grizzlies came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Grizzlies as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.
Mesa Ridge walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the second set). The final score came out to 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Palmer got the win against Harrison on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0.
While Palmer won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-16.
Mesa Ridge better focus on containing Taytum Soppe-Cope and Audrenna Gemmeke-Hall as the pair were huge in Palmer's win. Soppe-Cope had 11 digs and seven aces, while Gemmeke-Hall had six digs and five aces. With that strong performance, Gemmeke-Hall is now averaging an impressive 12.3 assists per game. Evelyn Sheridan also deserves some recognition as she had her first digs of the season.
Palmer was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in six consecutive matchups.
Palmer's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Mesa Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 4-11.
