Crystal City is 2-8 against Hondo since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Javelinas will face off against the Owls at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Crystal City beats Hondo with 14 runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Javelinas blew past Natalia 14-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Javelinas.

Adrian Zavala made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Michael Trevi?o looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Abraham Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Crystal City is undefeated when Martinez posts two or more runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Jason Mendoza also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Crystal City was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hondo had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They never let the Wolves get on the board and left with an 8-0 win.
Mason Barr was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kolten Alvarez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Hondo's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Crystal City, their record now sits at 11-8.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Crystal City has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Crystal City suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Hondo when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Javelinas avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
