The Overton Eagles entered their tilt with the Axtell Wildcats with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Overton managed a 55-49 victory over Axtell on Friday. For Overton, this counts as revenge for the 63-36 defeat Axtell walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Overton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brock McCarter out in front who scored 13 points. Eli Luther was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Axtell's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Morgan's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Halvorsen, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Overton's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Axtell, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Overton will head out on the road to face off against Southern Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Allowing an average of 65.7 points per game, Southern Valley has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest. As for Axtell, they will be playing at home against Harvard at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Harvard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Axtell is ranked 73rd).
