Basketball Recap: North Surry Takes a Loss

North Surry was the 53-43 winner over Surry Central when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North Surry Greyhounds were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 45-44 to the Surry Central Golden Eagles.

Several Greyhounds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bitty Phillips, who went 7 of 13 en route to 22 points and six rebounds. Phillips' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylyn Collins, who posted 12 points.

Presley Smith was nothing short of spectacular for Surry Central: she went 8 for 19 on her way to 18 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Those 18 points gave Smith a new career-high. Reese Leonard was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

North Surry's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Surry Central, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.

North Surry wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 65-37 defeat against North Wilkes on the 21st. As for Surry Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-55 loss against East Surry on the 21st.
