2A-1 Region IV District 16 recap Oct. 3, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mathis, who took down 518th ranked Falfurrias, 12-7.
The Pirates moved up to 674 from 746 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region IV District 16. Mathis was able to make the jump by beating the Bulls 12-7.
Jake Ray was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 24 carries, he ran for 173 yards as Odem topped Santa Rosa. Jacob Acevedo also contributed to the rushing game with 94 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Michael Lichtenberger and Luis Lopez San Diego has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Lichtenberger leads the league in passing with 399 yards, while Lopez has rushed for 926 yards this season. The Owls' Ryan Andrade leads the league in receiving yards with 138 on nine catches.
Lopez of the the Vaqueros is only 74 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when San Diego takes on the Pirates. Bo Ochoa's team is currently in first, while Mathis is in fourth.
Aransas Pass led 2A-1 Region IV District 16 in scoring this week after putting up 42 points on Bishop.
