The Huntington North Vikings will challenge the Mississinewa Indians at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Huntington North is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Huntington North had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Wabash on Monday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Apaches with a sharp 12-3 win. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Apaches recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Eli Pohler looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Cruz Kindler and Brodee Swaidner did most of the damage at the plate: Kindler went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Swaidner got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Kindler has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Harris, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Huntington North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Mississinewa owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They skirted past Northwestern 2-0. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Tigers on their field since April 13, 2019.
Northwestern's batters probably weren't too happy with Kenny Ayala, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (he gave up two walks). Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Ayala.
On the hitting side, Mississinewa saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lio Matamoros, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Mississinewa has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Huntington North, their record is now 6-4.
Huntington North came up short against Mississinewa in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
