Parker Bennett made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Bennett is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Max Furman was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Victor Ottman, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, South Williamsport didn't have quite enough to beat Jersey Shore on Monday and fell 3-2. The Mountaineers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
South Williamsport also got a good showing from Cole Gerber, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, South Williamsport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaymes Carpenter, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.
Montgomery's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.0 runs this season. As for South Williamsport, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montgomery hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like South Williamsport struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Montgomery suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to South Williamsport in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Red Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
