Dunnellon and Crystal River are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Dunnellon Tigers will face off against the Crystal River Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dunnellon's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Crystal River's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Dunnellon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Weeki Wachee by a score of 7-2 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Dunnellon let Aden Permar and Kasiyah Jones run wild. Permar went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Jones scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jones also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Taytym Simonsen was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Dunnellon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weeki Wachee struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, while Crystal River put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Hernando. Crystal River walked away with a 4-0 victory over Hernando. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Leopards recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Not much got past Violet Flynn, who gave up just three hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep Hernando off the board. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Flynn.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Herrick, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Crystal River pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Dunnellon, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dunnellon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Crystal River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
