Basketball Recap: Lakeside Comes Up Short

If Lakeside was feeling good fresh off their 65-28 takedown of Druid Hills last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Lakeside Vikings took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagle's Landing Eagles on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 453rd, while the Eagles are ranked 92nd).

When it comes to explaining why Lakeside lost, don't look at Shaan Fritz. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points and six assists. Fritz is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nate Bennion, who went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points.

Leading Eagle's Landing to victory were Dayveon Knight and Malik Hand. Knight went 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points, while Hand posted ten points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Hannibal Smith, who put up nine points.

Lakeside's record now sits at 2-9. As for Eagle's Landing, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-5.

Lakeside will venture away from home to face off against Loganville Christian Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Eagle's Landing, they will welcome Lithia Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lithia Springs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Eagle's Landing surely won't give up without a fight.
