Galena hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Grizzlies are taking a road trip to take on the Tigers at 3:45 p.m. Galena has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Galena is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: McQueen, who was ranked 14th at the time (Galena was ranked 23rd). The Grizzlies fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 11-9 on Saturday. The Grizzlies just can't catch a break and have now endured seven losses in a row.
Jordan Gurney and Taylor Cunningham stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gurney went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Cunningham went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was Gurney's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylee Baker, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Douglas made sure to put some runs up on the board against Damonte Ranch on Tuesday. The Tigers were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Haylie Pledger made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Pledger was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Camryn McLelland and Annie Hill did most of the damage at the plate: McLelland went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Hill went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave Hill a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marissa McLelland, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Douglas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Damonte Ranch only posted an OBP of .391.
Douglas has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Galena, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-18-1.
Galena might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from Douglas when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Grizzlies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
