The Buena Colts posted their biggest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They blew past Desert View, posting a 75-41 win on the road. Given Buena's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Desert View is ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jamin Booker was his usual excellent self, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Deangelo Hawthorne, who scored six points along with four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Desert View lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gilbert Herran. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Herran has scored all season. Jaime Lopez was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Buena's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Desert View, they are on a 16-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buena will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Sahuaro at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. As for Desert View, they will face off against Buena at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Averaging 62.7 so far this season, Buena's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Desert View better be ready for a challenge.
