The Wayne Blue Devils scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They snuck past Winnebago with a 55-50 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Wayne as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Wayne found their leader in underclassman Haley Kramer, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Elle Powicki, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Winnebago saw an underclassman step up: Jolon Blackbird scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Tressa BigBear was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Winnebago were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne only pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Wayne's victory bumped their record up to 4-8. As for Winnebago, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayne and Bancroft-Rosalie will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Bancroft-Rosalie is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.8 points per game. As for Winnebago, they will be playing at home against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
