Leake Central pushed their score all the way to 69 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 87-69 bruising from Northeast Lauderdale. Leake Central has not had much luck with Northeast Lauderdale recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, Choctaw Central had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five last Friday. They came out on top against Newton County by a score of 67-54. Given Choctaw Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Newton County is ranked 109th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leake Central has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Choctaw Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season.
Leake Central might still be hurting after the 73-53 loss they got from Choctaw Central when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Leake Central avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
