Baseball Recap: Shelbyville Extends Winning Streak to Five

Shelbyville waltzed into their game on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the New Castle Trojans by a score of 6-2. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 on Wednesday.

Dalton Jones was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

In other batting news, Brayden Smith was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Gavyn Fisher, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Shelbyville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Castle struck out eight times.

Shelbyville pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for New Castle, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shelbyville will challenge Rushville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Golden Bears are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for New Castle, they will face off against Connersville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
