If the Charleston Bluejays were riding high off their 87-50 takedown of the Century Centurions last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Charleston took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Massac County. Charleston was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Massac County apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Charleston still got an impressive performance from Zachyran Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Thomas continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Ko'terrion Owens was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Will Harmon was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points for Massac County. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Hosman, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Charleston bumped their record down to 10-8 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Massac County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.
Charleston on the road again on Saturday and play against Goreville at 6:15 p.m. on January 20th. Goreville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Charleston likes a good challenge. As for Massac County, they will be playing at home against Vienna at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Vienna will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
