Meanwhile, Russell County didn't have quite enough to beat Rockcastle County on Friday and fell 12-10. The loss continues a trend for the Lakers in their meetings with the Rockets: they've now lost five in a row.
Brylie Hardwick put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Mallie McQueary was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jaylee Roy, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Monroe County's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8-1. As for Russell County, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monroe County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Russell County struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
