Beaumont and Yucaipa are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Beaumont Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Yucaipa Thunderbirds at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Beaumont didn't have too much trouble with Cajon on the road as they won 56-40. Given Beaumont's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Cajon is ranked 628th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Beaumont's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vince tracy Capuras led the charge by scoring 21 points along with eight steals. Another player making a difference was Adrian Farias, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Yucaipa beat Citrus Valley 62-49 on Wednesday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Yucaipa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonathan Campbell, who scored 19 points. Campbell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Doty, who scored 15 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Beaumont and bumps their season record up to 16-6. As for Yucaipa, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 10-13.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Beaumont hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 58.9 points per game. It's a different story for Yucaipa, though, as they've been averaging only 58.1 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Beaumont strolled past Yucaipa in their previous matchup on January 3rd by a score of 65-51. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Campbell, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Beaumont still be able to contain him? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
