The Regis Groff Fusion lost against the Northfield Nighthawks back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Regis Groff had to suffer through a rough 95-36 loss at the hands of the Nighthawks. While losing is never fun, Regis Groff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Nighthawks are ranked 24th).
Regis Groff lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Darius Owens, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Mahmoud Ibrahim, who scored 11 points along with four blocks and two steals.
Even though they lost, Regis Groff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northfield only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Northfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Justus Michael, who scored 17 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daquan Slayton, who scored six points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Regis Groff has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Northfield, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.
Regis Groff will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Thomas Jefferson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 389 points over their last five matches. Northfield is on the road again on Friday and plays the Bison at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Vista PEAK Prep is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
