The Maranatha Minutemen will head out on the road to face off against the St. Francis Golden Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maranatha will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 215th, while St. Francis is ranked 49th).
Maranatha fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Village Christian on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 75-74 to the Crusaders. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Despite the defeat, Maranatha got a solid performance out of Zain Mahmood, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Nwabudike, who scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds.
Meanwhile, St. Francis had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They came out on top against King's Academy by a score of 52-44.
The losses dropped Maranatha to 3-2 and Village Christian to 6-3.
