Basketball Recap: KIPP Bold City Takes a Loss

KIPP Bold City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt an 81-39 loss at the hands of the Christ's Church Academy Eagles. The contest marked the Greyhounds' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

KIPP Bold City's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joel Hunt, who posted eight points. Hunt has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 17 times he's played. Kayland Byirt was another key player, putting up four points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, KIPP Bold City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive games.

Christ's Church Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jackson Olson out in front who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave OlsOn a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Aiden Simms, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

KIPP Bold City's loss dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Christ's Church Academy, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home.

KIPP Bold City and Christ's Church Academy should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. KIPP Bold City will face off against Global Outreach Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday up 302 places (274 vs. 576). KIPP Bold City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Christ's Church Academy (ranked 363rd) will meet Warner Christian Academy (ranked 767th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
