After a string of four wins, the Mt. Vernon Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell to Carmi-White County 58-53. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mt. Vernon of the 62-50 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Mt. Vernon's loss came despite strong showings from Nicot Burnett and Nash Hostetter. Burnett scored 20 points along with eight rebounds, while Hostetter scored 13 points along with two steals.
Mt. Vernon struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Mt. Vernon's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Carmi-White County, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
Mt. Vernon on the road again on Friday and play against Tell City at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Carmi-White County, they will play host again and welcome Grayville, where tip off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
