Basketball Recap: Haywood Extends Winning Streak to Four

Haywood extended their winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Lekendric Phillips. The Haywood Tomcats strolled past the East Nashville Magnet Eagles with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 74-55 thanks in part to Phillips, who went 12 for 16 on his way to 28 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. His afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Malachi Bond, who posted eight points and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals.

Haywood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.8 points per game. As for East Nashville Magnet, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Haywood will venture away from home to square off against Covington at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for East Nashville Magnet, they will be taking part in a tournament against Butler at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
