South Mountain is 0-6 against Maryvale since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will face off against the Panthers at 6:00 p.m. South Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
South Mountain couldn't beat Camelback on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the third inning. The Jaguars fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 15-14.
Alexia Ramirez was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and 11 unearned) runs off 11 hits. Ramirez was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.

In other batting news, Mariah Salas led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bethsi Arellano-Melendez, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Maryvale was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They came up short against Cibola, falling 24-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since March 20th.
Maryvale saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaline Ortega, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles.
South Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 7-12-1. As for Maryvale, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Mountain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Maryvale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Mountain suffered a grim 22-0 defeat to Maryvale when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
