Baseball Recap: Southeast Makes It Six in a Row at Home

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Southeast ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jayhawk Linn Jayhawks, sneaking past 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lancers.

Zayne Gabern made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gabern was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Southeast is undefeated when Gabern posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Southeast let Izaak Dickenson and Tyler Warner run wild. Dickenson scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Warner scored a run while going 3-for-4. Those four hits gave Dickenson a new career-high. Jude Sullivan was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Southeast kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.4.

Southeast's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Jayhawk Linn, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12-2 record this season.

Southeast will take on St. Paul at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.75 runs per game on average), something the Lancers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jayhawk Linn, they will face off against Uniontown on Thursday.
