The Alexandria-Monroe Tigers will head out to take on the Frankton Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Alexandria-Monroe is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.8 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Alexandria-Monroe didn't have quite enough to beat Mississinewa and fell 6-5. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.
Kinley Webb made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Kinsley Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Frankton came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-2 win over the Royals. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Morgan Sparks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aly Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Ward, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Having lost for the first time this season, Alexandria-Monroe fell to 11-1. As for Frankton, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Alexandria-Monroe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Alexandria-Monroe beat Frankton 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
