The Capital Eagles will challenge the Borah Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Capital is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Capital barely beat Rocky Mountain the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 15-7 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Romy Turpen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKenna Chavez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Genevieve Tessemer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Capital kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Borah didn't have quite enough to beat Kuna on Monday and fell 9-8. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Justice Pruitt and Josie Gregory did some serious damage despite the final result: Pruitt went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Gregory went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Naylor, who went 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
Capital is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Borah, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Borah's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Capital has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Borah, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Capital's sizable advantage in that area, the Lions will need to find a way to close that gap.
Capital beat Borah 13-10 when the teams last played back in March. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
