Even though the Harlandale Indians have not done well against the Medina Valley Panthers recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Harlandale walked away with a 52-45 win over Medina Valley. Given Harlandale's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while Medina Valley is ranked 576th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marissa Ortiz was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Maddison Sanchez was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Medina Valley saw an underclassman step up: Trinity Dixon scored 22 points along with six steals. Dixon hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games.
Harlandale has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 28-6 record this season. As for Medina Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 13-19.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Harlandale will square off against Southwest Legacy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Harlandale is coming into the game with eight straight wins on the road, so Southwest Legacy is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Medina Valley, they will take on McCollum at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. McCollum knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Medina Valley likes a good challenge.
