3A District 5 recap September 17, 2013
Calvary Christian was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from third to first in 3A District 5. Earlier in the week, the Warriors triumphed over Northside Christian 34-6.
Calvary Christian took down the Mustangs 34-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Danny Giordano ran for 178 yards in the win.
Shorecrest Prep's dynamic duo of Sam Grant and Mark Dowling proved tough for Carrollwood Day to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grant threw for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns and Dowling had 90 yards receiving. Cooper Wolf helped Shorecrest Prep's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 45 yards.
The Chargers' dynamic duo of Grant and Dowling proved to be unstoppable against the Patriots, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Giordano was a passing and rushing force as Todd Yoder's team bested Northside Christian.
Giordano was the best running back in the league this week. Kyle Don also contributed to the rushing game with 62 yards on the ground.
Dowling was the best receiver in the league this week as Shorecrest Prep lost to Carrollwood Day.
Grant put up the best numbers through the air as Dave Moore's team fell to Lane Mclaughlin's team.
Clearwater Central Catholic's Jeff Smith and CJ Cotman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A District 5 in both passing and receiving yards. 5-11 quarterback Smith has thrown for 251 yards this season, while Cotman has 8 catches for 151 yards. The Warriors' Giordano leads the league in rushing yards with 448.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when St. Petersburg Catholic takes on Admiral Farragut. The Barons are currently in second, while the Bluejackets are in fifth.
Admiral Farragut and Indian Rocks Christian played the most contested game in the league this week, with Admiral Farragut eventually emerging with a 17-14 victory.
