Dixie has gone 9-1 against Whitmire recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Dixie Hornets will be playing at home against the Whitmire Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Dixie's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Whitmire has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
Dixie is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Thornwell: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Dixie blew Thornwell out of the water with a 51-11 final score. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dixie to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylia Turner, who posted 11 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerrie O'Shields, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Whitmire played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against McCormick, falling 42-21. The Wolverines were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-9.
Dixie will need focus on slowing down Brooklynn Babb, one of several Whitmire players who made an impact when they last played. She earned nine points. That was a full 42.9% of Whitmire's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Trystan Samples, who put up two points and three blocks.
Whitmire's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Dixie, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Dixie has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.2 boards per game. It's a different story for Whitmire, though, as they've been averaging only 13.3 rebounds. Given Dixie's sizable advantage in that area, Whitmire will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Dixie against Whitmire when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 51-22 win. Does Dixie have another victory up their sleeve, or will Whitmire turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
