The Westerville Central Warhawks will head out on the road to face off against the New Albany Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westerville Central is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
A well-balanced attack led Westerville Central over Westland in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Westerville Central blew Westland out of the water with a 38-0 final score. Given Westerville Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Westland is ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jaystin Gwinn had a dynamite game for Westerville Central, rushing for 120 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, while also throwing for 159 yards and a touchdown on only 12 passes. Jayden Gwinn also helped out as he racked up 159 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, New Albany started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Pickerington North. They fell to the Panthers 21-17.
Although New Albany took the loss, they still got scores from Brayden Pettinger and Joseph Owusu-ansah.
Westerville Central's victory bumped their season record to 2-7 while New Albany's loss dropped theirs to 3-6.
Westerville Central beat New Albany 17-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westerville Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
