Cesar E. Chavez hasn't had much luck against Heights recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Cesar E. Chavez will take on Heights at 5:30 p.m. Cesar E. Chavez's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Heights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Cesar E. Chavez fell victim to King and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 6-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Lobos haven't been shut out since back in February.
Cesar E. Chavez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Penelope Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heights). They never let Westside get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won nine in a row.
Sara Paniagua made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Flora Moreno was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Arredondo, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 12.8.
This is the second loss in a row for Cesar E. Chavez and nudges their season record down to 6-5. As for Heights, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cesar E. Chavez has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Heights struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cesar E. Chavez couldn't quite finish off Heights when the teams last played back in February and fell 5-3. Can Cesar E. Chavez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
