Lakeland Christian has gone 7-1 against Mulberry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Lakeland Christian Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mulberry Panthers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Lakeland Christian sitting on four straight victories and Mulberry on three.
Lakeland Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Discovery with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Brody Brenneman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Maclain Irby was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Lakeland Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .409 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mulberry got themselves on the board against Bartow on Tuesday, but Bartow never followed suit. They came out on top against the Yellow Jackets by a score of 4-0.
Not much got past Griffin Cline, who gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks to keep Bartow off the board. Cline has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nic Partridge was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Wyatt, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Lakeland Christian's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mulberry, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lakeland Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mulberry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lakeland Christian beat Mulberry 4-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Lakeland Christian repeat their success, or does Mulberry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
