Basketball Recap: Stockton Christian Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Stockton Christian entered their match against Vanguard College Prep on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Stockton Christian Eagles fell just short of the Vanguard College Prep Lions by a score of 64-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (61), the Eagles still had to take the loss.

Stockton Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Chamblee, who posted 18 points. The game was Chamblee's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenzy Escalante, who had 17 points.

Vanguard College Prep found their leader in sophomore Xavier Lopez, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points. With that strong performance, Lopez is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Nathan Muriithi was another key player, going 5 for 7 on his way to 13 points.

Stockton Christian's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-7. As for Vanguard College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 6-10.

Stockton Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-54 win against Turlock Christian on the 10th. As for Vanguard College Prep, they will head out to challenge Delta Charter at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Vanguard College Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
