Lafayette Jefferson is 2-8 against Harrison since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bronchos will be playing at home against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
On Saturday, Lafayette Jefferson needed a bit of extra time to put away Twin Lakes. They skirted past the Indians 5-4.
Lafayette Jefferson saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leyton Corbin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Corbin has posted over his last 15 games.
Meanwhile, Harrison waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Mavericks a 2-0 shutout. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Raiders have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
The result came thanks to Chase Gothrup's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nolan Hodnett, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
Lafayette Jefferson has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Harrison, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lafayette Jefferson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Harrison struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lafayette Jefferson couldn't quite get it done against Harrison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Will the Bronchos have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
