Heartland I recap October 1, 2013
Danville added to the longest winning streak in Heartland I this week by beating Central Columbia, 34-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Milton took down Carson Long Military Academy 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Billy Boone Costa made the biggest impact on defense this week as Jersey Shore lost to Mifflinburg. The 5-foot-6 junior.
Dwayne Pepper was a passing and rushing force as Shikellamy fell to Loyalsock Township.. Pepper's key target this week was Nick Dunn, who caught 2 passes for 41 yards.
Jordan Wagner put up the best numbers through the air as the Wildcats bested the Bulldogs. He had a total of 8 completions for 137 yards. Wagner's favorite target this week was Patrick Crissman, who caught 2 passes for 51 yards.
Jersey Shore's Logan English and Brody Smith have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. English has thrown for 666 yards this season, while Smith, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 24 catches for 238 yards. Sam Dressler from Danville leads the league in rushing with 758 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Tom Gravish's team's Smith goes up against Jim Keiser's team's Matt Meloy.
Next week's game between the Bulldogs and the Ironmen will feature a good passing match up as English will test his arm against Meloy's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Jersey Shore takes on Danville. The Bulldogs are currently in fifth, while the Ironmen are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Jersey Shore and Danville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bulldogs comes in having scored 99 this season, while the Ironmen have scored 163. Jersey Shore scored 13 points last week as it lost to Mifflinburg.
Jason Dressler's team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,709 from 5,832. The improvement was largely due to a 20-13 victory over the Bulldogs last week.
