The Zephyrhills Christian Academy Warriors had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were beaten by Hollins 85-54. While losing is never fun, Zephyrhills Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 581st, while Hollins is ranked 204th).
Despite the defeat, Zephyrhills Christian Academy had strong showings from Rogers Jones, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Jordani Blanc, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Perez, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hollins to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malachi Miller, who scored 21 points. The matchup was Miller's third in a row with at least ten points. Aidan Lemons was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Zephyrhills Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Hollins, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zephyrhills Christian Academy will take on Seven Rivers Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Seven Rivers Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday. Hollins won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Canterbury at 7:30 p.m. on November 29th.
