The Grandview Zebras had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 57.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-19 win over West. This was payback for Grandview, who suffered a 38-21 loss the last time these two teams met.
Despite the defeat, West had strong showings from Gus Crain, who threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns, and Coy Klish, who gained 126 total yards and a touchdown.
Grandview's victory was their fourth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 7-1. As for West, their defeat ended a eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-3.
Grandview will take on Whitney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Whitney will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last. As for West, they will head out on the road to face off against Gateway Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gateway Charter Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1173rd, while West is ranked 463rd).
