Warren County hasn't had much luck against Washington County recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Warren County Screaming Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Washington County Golden Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Warren County took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 48-41 victory over Jefferson County.
Warren County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Courtney Bray, who posted 21 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bray has scored at least a third of Warren County's points. Another player making a difference was Saniya Tolbert, who put up eight points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Washington County didn't have too much trouble with Northeast on Friday as they won 51-35. Given the Golden Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Raiders are ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Washington County's win came from a few key players Warren County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aeria Hagans, who posted 16 points and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Kitchens, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 boards and nine assists.
Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Washington County pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Warren County, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Warren County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Washington County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Warren County took a serious blow against Washington County when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 65-21. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Warren County was down 39-13.
