2A/1A Conference 17 recap October 1, 2013
Midway added to the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Conference 17 this week by beating East Bladen, 16-13. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Raiders.
West Bladen moved up to 232 from 267 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Knights were able to move up by defeating Union 41-34.
West Bladen's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Colby Lewis threw for 52 and 2 touchdowns and Malcolm Vaught had 47 yards receiving. On the ground Vaught chipped in 207 yards.
Russell Dove's team's dynamic duo of Lewis and Vaught proved to be unstoppable against the Spartans, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Vaught provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Knights defeated Union. Vaught's favorite target this week was Vaught, who caught 3 passes for 47 yards.
On the heels of Ryan Hall and Dezmond Faison, Douglas Burley's team has had great success on offense. Hall is tops in the league in passing with 149 yards, while Faison has rushed for 776 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is West Bladen's Stephon McDonald, with 71 yards on 2 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Wallace-Rose Hill takes on the Knights. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in second, while West Bladen is in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when Wallace-Rose Hill and the Knights face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Joey Price's team comes in having scored 187 this season, while West Bladen has scored 161. The Bulldogs scored 70 points last week as they bested Trask.
Wallace-Rose Hill took down the Titans 70-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jalen Robinson ran for 117 yards in the win.
