Water Valley is 3-0 against Sonora since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Water Valley Wildcats will be staying on the road to face off against the Sonora Broncos at 6:15 p.m. on January 26th. Water Valley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Water Valley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Ozona, falling 65-19. Water Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-9.
Meanwhile, Sonora's nine-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They walked away with a 36-28 victory over Reagan County. The win was just what Sonora needed coming off of a 66-15 loss in their prior match.
It was another big night for Jayla Williams, who almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ravyn Aguero, who scored five points along with six steals.
Water Valley dropped their record down to 17-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 21.2 points per game. As for Sonora, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-18.
Water Valley strolled past Sonora when the teams last played on January 2nd by a score of 48-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Water Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
